Interactive charts and rich content in Tooltips

Modified on Mon, 14 Oct at 5:18 PM

We are making tooltips more powerful and interactive than ever. With this new feature, you can fully customise your tooltips, embed charts, display rich content, and configure them in lots of different ways. Here’s a quick overview of what you can do.

What’s New with Tooltips?

  1. Embed Charts:

    • Add charts directly into your tooltips to give users a deeper look at the data without leaving the view. For example, in a bar chart of popular artists, you can show a pie chart breaking down explicit vs. non-explicit songs when hovering over an artist.

  2. Add Rich Text and Media:

    • Make your tooltips more engaging by adding text, images, links, and more. You can even link to external resources like a Wikipedia page or embed images to provide more context.

  3. Flexible Tooltip Behaviour:

    • Choose how your tooltips appear: on hover or on click. You can also turn off other selections to keep the focus solely on the tooltip content.

  4. Full Style Customisation:

    • Set global styles like background colour, borders, and animations through the report settings to match your design needs.

How to Set It Up

  • Embed a Chart:
Go to your view’s tooltip settings, enable "Show Chart Inside Tooltip," and choose the type of chart and data you want to display.

  • Add Rich Content:
Use the Content view to add text, formulas, images, and links to your tooltips for a richer user experience.

  • Control Tooltip Behaviour:
Decide whether tooltips appear on hover or click and adjust other settings to suit your preferences.

  • Customise Styling:
Head to the report styles tab to tweak colours, backgrounds, and titles.

In the View's Settings menu scroll and pick > Tooltips,
select to "show chart inside tooltip", also pick whether the tooltip object should show on hover or on click.
Click on "Configure chart" button to proceed to the pop-up chart settings.

Why Use This Feature?

Tooltips are now more than just simple data labels. They help users explore data in depth, present rich information, and create engaging reports. By customising tooltips, you can make your dashboards more interactive and insightful, turning them into a powerful tool for data exploration and storytelling.
